Hospice: Updates from CMS on the Development of the HOPE Tool and the Future of HQRP

The Hospice Outcomes & Patient Evaluation (HOPE) is a standardized patient assessment that CMS is developing for the HQRP. In theory, HOPE will provide hospices with “real-time patient assessments to better understand care needs throughout the hospice stay and contribute to the patient’s plan of care with the ability to develop meaningful outcome quality measures.” After testing and rule-making is complete, HOPE will replace the HIS component of HQRP, although we are still several years away according to CMS.

CMS canceled the April HQRP Forum in light of the ongoing public health emergency. Now, hospices can hear from CMS about developments with the HOPE with this newly released recording of the April HQRP Forum presentation.
